Garmin 910XT Works Perfectly In The Drink

Swimming has been one of the more popular sports people have wanted to be able to record their own personal performance in. There have been other devices in the past which have claimed to be able to record data during swimming however they haven’t really been able to live up to the claims. The closet device that was able to do this was the Garmin 310XT which just so happens to be the platform from where the idea for the upgraded Garmin 910XT came from.

Whilst I was researching for this Garmin 910XT review I found that there has been a lot positive acceptance around this watch. I know it’s new however these types of products can sometimes take a real battering as people try to find faults and defects. The only negativity was that some people apparently don’t like the design. I think it’s pretty cool its slimmer that past models and offers a lot more functionality so I don’t really know what their issues are. And on top of all this and unlike other GPS watches available it works perfectly underwater.

Garmin have released the 910XT with all the usual gear as you’ve previously come to know and love; heart rate monitor, USB ANT stick etc. You can still track your routines and upload them to Garmin Connect website, you can analyse both open water and indoor pool activity and because you’re being tracked by GPS satellites you can get an accurate reading of the path you take which will enable you to make adjustments to better your technique whether it be in or out of the water.

Is There Anything Wrong With The Forerunner 910XT

The only downside is that although it comes with a heart rate monitor which is very good at keeping track of your heart rate and you can absolutely wear it underwater, you won’t be able to track your heart rate whilst you’re submerged. This I personally don’t see as a deal breaker however I’m glad Garmin have been upfront to say that their device can’t do this. I’d also rather know this before buying rather than finding out later it doesn’t do something I might’ve assumed or even expected it to do. This is the sort of thing a lot of people will moan about however I don’t see it as an issue as you’ll be too busy concentrating on your lengths rather than watching your heart rate whilst performing your strokes.

All in all if you’re new to buying a GPS watch or if you’re looking for an upgrade you will find that the Garmin Forerunner 910XT will be the perfect sports training watch for you. This watch is a must buy for any triathlete as it has all the functionality and capability to be able to switch between and record all, and I mean ALL, of your data in all three events.
